As the Deputy Secretary of State for Operations at the California Secretary of State’s office, Lizette oversees the operations of the agency which includes the state elections, business filings, political reform, the office of risk management, the project management office, the information technology office, the agency budget, management services, and the State Archives. She was Director of Policy and Strategic Planning for State Board of Equalization member Fiona Ma from 2015 to 2016 and Director of Special Projects at the California Department of Motor Vehicles from 2013 to 2015 where she oversaw the statewide outreach efforts for the implementation of the historic bill to grant driver licenses to the undocumented community.
Lizette served as director of communications in the office of California state Senator Ricardo Lara from 2012 to 2013 where she also served as the spokesperson for the California Latino Legislative Caucus. She was the director of communications in the office of California state Assembly Speaker pro Tempore Fiona Ma from 2011 to 2012. She was Committee Secretary of the California State Assembly Committee on Veterans Affairs in 2011 and served in several positions in the California State Assembly Speaker’s Office from 2008 to 2011 for three Speakers, including Deputy Director of Communications and press aide.
Lizette currently serves on the 52nd District Agricultural Association, Sacramento County Fair Board of Directors to which she was appointed by Governor Brown in March of 2016.
